As the third quarter of 2011 comes to a close, Hotelzon Online releases a statistical analysis of corporate accommodation buying patterns. The specialist in the hotel booking sector and providers of technology has gathered online booking data from over 500,000 system users across the globe.
The results compare data collected from the last quarter (July, August and September), often recognised as the quietest time for corporate business, against the same period last year, 2010. The statistics reflect the buying patterns of corporates from 2010 and 2011.
The number of hotel bookings made in Q3 2011 compared to Q3 2010 show an increase of 5%.
London remains the most booked UK destination in Q3 through a combination of call centre and corporate bookings. Manchester follows, and Birmingham is the 3rd most booked destination in both 2010 and 2011.
Bookings in Q3 2011 had an average length of stay of 1.71 days, which was the same figure for Q4 2010. The average room rate for Q3 2011 was £114.81.
Average lead in time for Q3 2011 was 13.54 days, which is 2.07 days longer than the average lead in time for Q1, assuming that corporates returning in the new year make quick hotel bookings as opposed to Q3 when they allow more time to plan travel.
Travel agents in the UK booked 76.99% of hotels in 2010 and 77.82% in 2011 compared to Finnish companies that gave agents 24.89% of total bookings to manage in 2010, and 18.13% in 2011. In 2010 and 2011, UK corporates managed an average of 22.60% of total rooms booked, compared to Finnish corporates who managed 78.49%.

The data reflects decisions of corporates, quarter by quarter, which is echoed in short lead in times of under 2 weeks, similar to last year. As the year starts to wind down, and with new travel policies being drawn up, estimated figures predict corporate hotel bookings surging before the New Year. There are signs of decrease in travel, but the transformation from off-line to online booking in corporate travel works on our favour”
