Rio 2016 appoints live ceremony producers

The organising committee for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games has appointed the Cerimonias Cariocas 2016 consortium as the executive production company for live ceremonies and major events.
The consortium comprises the Italian event, advertising and television holding Film Master Group and Brazilian event production company SRCOM. In a statement, the organising committee revealed the selection process had taken five months and added that the creative aspects “were excluded from this process and will be the object of a future selection phase, restricted to Brazilian talent”.
Film Master Group has operating centres in Milan, Rome, Madrid and Dubai and was responsible for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. SRCOM has produced events such as the New Year’s Eve celebration on Copacabana Beach in Rio, from 2008 to 2011, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Rio 2011 CISM World Military Games.
The consortium’s core team includes Ric Burch, Abel Gomes, Marco Balish and Flavio Machado. Burch organised and produced the Olympic Games ceremonies in Los Angeles in 1984, Barcelona in 1992 and Sydney in 2000. Birch was also the international artistic consultant for the Beijing 2008 Olympics and a consultant for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
