Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced a Constitutional Amendment bill that would profoundly curtail corporate money influence over US elections.
The Sanders legislation is call the Saving American Democracy Amendment. It is designed to take a bite out of the Citizens United vs. the Federal Elections Commission 2010 Supreme Court decision that changed corporations into people.
"American democracy in endangered," Sanders said. The Citizens United law "allowed unrestricted and secret campaign spending by corporations on U.S. elections."
Under the new law, there is no requirement for disclosure for Super PAC money. There are also no restrictions on what country that money comes from. So any foreign interest can buy TV ads or other advertising to influence voters.
