The 11th International Conference on Alzheimer's and Parkinson 's
Diseases will be held from 6 to 10 March 2013 in Florence, Italy.
Over 26 million people worldwide were estimated to be living with Alzheimer's disease in 2006, according to a study led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The researchers also concluded the global prevalence of Alzheimer's disease will grow to more than 106 million by 2050. By that time, 43 percent of those with Alzheimer's disease will need high-level care, equivalent to that of a nursing home.
In Europe, researchers are striving to find solutions to this disease. Research on neurodegenerative diseases under FP7 has gone much further than in previous framework programmes. Since 2007 over EUR 100 million has been dedicated to research on Alzheimer's disease. The focus is now on early detection among physicians and health care professionals of dementia.
The event will aim bring together researchers to discuss various mechanism, clinical strategies and potential promising treatments of neurodegenerative disease.
