Coworking spaces are the front lines of Chicago's new economy.
In a handful of years, these shared workspaces have spread across Chicago, offering a new lower-cost model of office space and a breath of fresh innovation for the Windy City as they have in urban areas in New York, California, London and elsewhere.
They include 1871 and Enerspace, Blue1647, NextSpace, Grind and more. Some are Chicago originals. Others are Midwest expansions for coworking networks on the coasts. And at least one Chicago coworking brand had expanded elsewhere.
Its adherents are starting businesses, saving on office overhead – or simply renting space on the cheap for the exposure to sympatico freelancers in adjacent fields, the exhilaration of working around new ideas, and for the shared culture of nimble creation.
Blue Sky Innovation has been working and writing out of these spaces since we launched. Our goal is to capture the color and culture of each unique space, and to meet along the way the people behind the businesses making their homes in shared spaces.
We invite you to share your favorite coworking experiences, and to suggest new spaces for us to explore together.
