From Halli to Halli... en route to Dilli

HUBLI: After chatting briefly with his supporters who've come to meet him at his residence at Bhavani Nagar early in the morning, sitting MP from Dharwad and state BJP chief Prahlad Joshi, gets into his Toyota Innova to roll out the day's campaign. The MUV heads towards Shivalli village from his residence,

At 8.45am, he steps into the village, to loud cheers from BJP supporters. He begins with a visit to the Durgamma Temple. The villagers believe that anyone who visits this temple will overcome all hurdles. Former MLA Seema Masuti is accompanying him as the village falls in her constituency.

Joshi had planned to start with meeting his supporters. But Shivanand Mudi, a staunch BJP follower, invites him for tea at his home. Joshi heads straight there where he gives an impromptu address. He says to bring change in Delhi and the country, Narendra Modi should be supported as Prime Minister.

There is a spring in his step as he moves and crosses one narrow lane after another, jumping across overflowing drains. He starts with the Kurbara Oni (Potters' Lane). Hands folded, he goes from door to door requesting everyone to vote for him. He never forgets to call women "amma". Chandravva Kadam says she will definitely vote for Joshi. "He's like a family member and very polite when talking to villagers.

He requests senior citizens to elect him so that Modi can become PM. Clad in a pink khadi kurta and pyjama, he braves the scorching heat and keeps smiling cheerfully. Bowing to pressure, he has breakfast at a volunteer's house.

The development in Gujarat by CM Narendra Modi and his own work in the constituency in the past ten years is his main poll plank. He never forgets to target the Congress for its 2G scam, coal block allocation scam and other corruption issues.

Winding up his campaigning at Shivalli, Joshi and his entourage turn towards Hebballi. En route, he stops at the Brahmachaitnya Gondalesh and Mugabasaveshwar temple. Though it's rather sunny, a huge crowd is waiting for him and people raise slogans in support.

Dr V M Deshpande of Hebbali, says, "I'm not a BJP worker, but I have great regard for Joshi as he's been very close to me for many years. I organized this interaction with voters on the terrace of my clinic."

Seema Masuti, who calls Joshi her brother, reminds people he is the first MP to visit their village over 10 times and bring water from the Malaprabha river. He has also sanctioned enough funds for marriage halls and community halls, she points out.

Joshi highlights the difference in the price of petrol, diesel, LPG and other essentials when AB Vajpayee was PM and during the UPA government. In another village Talawai, he strikes a chord with farmers, saying the fertilizer price was Rs 390 during NDA rule but now Rs 1200- Rs 1300. Holding the hands of elders, Joshi says, "Yajamanre, nannannu gellisuvadu nimma jawabdaari, (elders, it's your responsibility to get me elected).
