Does anyone else get
frustrated with the amount of information online? In event planning,
what used to be as simple as sending an invitation, laying out white
table cloths and setting up food stations, has now turned into a world
where anything goes! With the amount of information online it makes even
the most seasoned event planner want to pull her (or his!) hair out.
So, to help you narrow your search, here are our top event planning
blogs and my thoughts on each of them.
In no particular order…www.eventmanagerblog.com
The leader in Event Technology Trends, this is a great resource for seasoned and start-up event planners. There are resources for wedding planning, event management and party planning, but this blog specializes in innovation and is widely referenced by other event planners. Personally, I enjoy his titles but sometimes the content is dry.
www.jeffhurtblog.com
The actual page itself isn’t very attractive, but once you get past the layout of the event planning blog, the information is useful, easy to read and engaging. There are four writers who focus on education and conference and meeting improvements; and let’s face it, there are a lot of meetings that need improvement!
www.eventjuice.co.uk
Love the name of this event planning blog! Based in the UK, eventjuice is a catch-all for event planners. There are 21 pages of blog posts and they cover everything from How to Launch a World-Class Book Launch to Getting a Virtual Assistant to 8-Steps To Plan A Wedding. They have some great content, but there’s no way to sift through the blogs by category so unless you’re getting their posts sent to your inbox then it’s nearly impossible to find specific information.
www.thoughtfullysimple.com
At first glance I was confused and thought this was a recipe blog, but soon realized that this is one of the best go-to blogs for any hostess or entertainer looking to spice up their party. But only if you’re a DIYer (Do It Yourself); if you’re a professional event planner with a budget and can hire caterers, etc then skip this blog altogether. Tori gives some creative (and simple!) ideas for baby showers, birthday and holiday parties, and even bridal showers and weddings.

Yes, finally an event planning blog that offers something different! This blog focuses on social media and tech savvy event planning. It details different social media options for event planners and corporate event planning, as well as new apps and technologies that are available. Even if you’re not tech savvy you still need to stay on top of the trends.
Update: Liz King Events has just luanched their new blog, check out the new look and updated content at: techsytalk.com

Started by some college students, there’s some good information in this blog and we chose it because of the case studies, their posts on team building and for their insights into the entertainment world. It seems that these guys like a good party!

A great corporate event planning resource, they even offer a Venue Finder location tool on their homepage. This event planning blog offers new and exciting information, and showcases the latest venues and ideas (including photos). This is a must-bookmark for any corporate event planner.

Specifically targeting corporate event planners and their event solutions, this blog has great content IF you can actually get to it. Jordan, the CEO, gives a great teaser on his chosen topic but then you have to put in all your company information in order to actually read the article or case study. I suspect this is a good read, and it’s educational, however it’s set up more like an information product than a blog.
Wedding Planning Blogs
www.blog.prestonbailey.comA global icon, Preston Bailey creates theatrical masterpieces and is known for his event and wedding design. Director of Wedding Planning, Kathy Romero, writes most of the posts in this event planning blog, but she gives you a look at the ins-and-outs of Preston’s parties and his event planning business. His work speaks for itself and if you take the time to read the blog, it’s clear he knows what he is doing.

Weddings, weddings, weddings…even though they seem to do corporate events too this blog screams weddings! Planning…Forever Events is a good resource for brides and as an event planner you may be able to borrow a few tips from them for your clients.
www.stylemepretty.com
Again, focusing more on the bride than the event planner, since this is their business, this blog is full of useful DIY information and events and some gorgeous photos. The reason we added this event planning blog to the list is for all the DIY information. If you’re getting your event planning business started and want some creative ideas, then visit this blog.

Decidedly a “hidden gem” in the blogosphere of event planning, opulent creations events (aka Onida Cruz Weddings and Events) has a diverse list of event information that is well-organized and easy to find. Want to see pictures from an Indian wedding, stats on the cost of an event, or some ideas on chair décor? Then this is your place to visit.

Written by CSEP (Certified Special Event Planner) Elisa Delgardio, this is the first blog that shows an Edgar Allan Poe themed dinner party! I find the font too small, but I have to admit that I love her creativity and the style she brings to her events. This event planning blog ranges from the creative to the practical with titles like, “Insurance for Weddings and Events” and “Henna Inspired Details Add An Artistic Flair To Wedding Cakes.” Is this another hidden gem? You tell us!

Some of our team loved it and others thought it was “been there, done that” kind of information. The text was difficult to read (gold on white), but for a new event planner (or a bride) it may be valuable information. We do love the gorgeous photos throughout the site.

Although this is another wedding planning blog, we chose it because it showcases proposals too. How unique and such a big part of the wedding! As a romantic at heart, I loved sifting through the New York City proposal stories on this event planning blog. Although there isn’t a wealth of technical event planning advice, this is a great read for the ‘feel good’ stories. With some very cute ideas, I’d even suggest it to your male friends or relatives who are planning to propose!
We want to hear from you. Which one of these is your favorite? Is there another event planning blog that you love that we missed? Share it in the comments and let us know why you like it.
As always, thanks for reading and sharing your insights!
