Signature drive for Pinky

GURGAON: More than 100 members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have decided to start a signature campaign to garner support for Pinky Chauhan, a student of Government Girls College, Sector 14, who attempted self-immolation last week over bizarre evaluation of exam papers.

The students' organization sought support from both the government and private colleges. in the city.

A student of Dronacharya Government College said, "Mismanagement in evaluation of examinations has been a major issue in MDU (Maharshi Dayanand University). It has affected the careers of many students in Haryana."

The agitating students plan to meet Union HRD minister Smriti Irani, who will be in Gurgaon on Tuesday.

Through the signature campaign, the agitating students will demand the immediate arrest of lecturers and principal for their alleged involvement in the case. "Despite that Pinky has given statement against six lecturers, the police have not made their names public. We demand immediate arrest of all the people who harassed her," said Satish.

He further informed that through the signature campaign, the protesting students will also demand that Pinky should be given a government job and economic support should be provided to Pinky's family at the earliest.

Moreover, the organisation feels that there is a need to address some serious issues in the education system in Haryana.
